Short and Long term effects
There were many short and long terms effects of World War II. The war was one of the bloodiest wars in Human history with many effects both on civilian lives and whole countries. Some of the effects were the massacre of many innocent lives, the rise of superpowers, and the split up of Germany.
Firstly, both Germany and Japan had genocides against different people. Germany began their hatred for the jews in the 1930 and committed genocide against jews and many other religious people. The total lives lost from genocide was over six million, with many others injured and living spaces and families lost during the war. Japan also had their own genocide against the Chinese, and other mainland asian countries. The estimated amount of lives lost from the Japanese genocide was from three to ten million but is guessed to be around six million as well.
Secondly, A few superpowers rose and fell at the end of World War II. America came out of the war as the number one superpower in the world. While Russia became the second biggest superpower and began the cold war against each other. Britain stayed a superpower for a while but was greatly weakened by World War II. Lastly, Germany and Japan were wiped off the map for being a superpower for a very long time.
Finally, Germany was one of the longest effects that were caused by the war. When the Allied powers met in Berlin they split Germany up into four parts but it basically turned into only two with Russia holding the East and America holding the West. Germany was split up until the late 20th century and people on the east side lived in fear for most of their lives. While West Germany thrived and East Germany began to fail they split even more. Near the end of the Cold War the Berlin Wall finally was torn down and finally unified Germany for the first time in over 40 years.
These were some of the many effects during World War II with different Genocides, the rise and fall of superpowers, and the split up of Germany. The consequences of this World War were great and we must thrive to never make these mistakes again. Let’s hope that humans don’t repeat the same mistakes again as we tend to do.
